Baseball Recap: Cleveland Comes Up Short

Cleveland fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Lincoln on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Cardinals by a score of 3-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-3 on Friday.

Arlo Copony spent all nine innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Cleveland's success: when he posts at least ten strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 6-14 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Cleveland saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Willem Munroe, who went 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Cleveland dropped their record down to 8-15 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. As for Lincoln, they are on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-12 record this season.

Cleveland does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Lincoln, they will venture away from home to square off against West Salem at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
