Basketball Recap: Ashton Lapointe's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Winnebago over Pender

If Winnebago was riding high fresh off their 66-33 takedown of Walthill on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Indians took a 56-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pender Pendragons on Tuesday. The Indians have struggled against the Pendragons recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Winnebago's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ashton LaPointe, who posted ten points. LaPointe is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Another player making a difference was Rahikim Free-Bass, who earned six points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pender to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ryan Krueger, who shot 56% from the field on his way to 19 points and eight rebounds. Those 19 points gave Krueger a new career-high. Trevor Trimble was another key player, going 6-for-10 to rack up 15 points and seven boards.

Having lost for the first time this season, Winnebago fell to 2-1. As for Pender, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 3-0.

Coming up, Winnebago will head out on the road to take on Omaha Nation at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Pender, they will venture away from home to challenge Oakland-Craig on Friday.
