Softball Recap: Wildwood Wildcats vs. Meadowbrook Academy Mustangs
After flying high against Bishop McLaughlin Catholic last Tuesday, Wildwood came back down to earth. Wildwood fell 24-19 to the Meadowbrook Academy Mustangs on Thursday. The Wildcats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.
Alex Barron was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 5-for-5 with one home run, six runs, and six RBI. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Ahja Smith also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Barron wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Wildwood kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 23 hits. That's a new trend for Wildwood: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 12.4.
Wildwood has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season. The victory got Meadowbrook Academy back to even at 4-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wildwood will take on West Port at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Meadowbrook Academy, it'll be an old-fashioned rodeo when Meadowbrook Academy Mustangs duke it out with North Marion Colts at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. North Marion has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13.17 runs per game on average), something Meadowbrook Academy will no doubt try to take advantage of.
