Basketball Recap: Randle Takes a Loss

Randle was the 48-14 winner over Victoria West when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. The Randle Lions fell 57-49 to the Victoria West Warriors on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 701st, while the Warriors are ranked 305th).

When it comes to explaining why Randle lost, don't look at Alaysia Cook. Despite the final result, she went 9 for 20 on her way to 24 points in addition to seven boards and six steals. Cook is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Sydney Gilmore, who posted eight points.

Even though they lost, Randle smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in ten consecutive matchups.

Randle's defeat dropped their record down to 6-10. As for Victoria West, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-4.

Randle and Terry will compete for holiday cheer at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Terry will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something Randle surely won't give up without a fight. As for Victoria West, they and Victoria East will meet in a classic East v. West matchup at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Victoria West is facing Victoria East at the right time seeing as Victoria East is stuck on a five-game losing streak.
