Basketball Game Preview: West Tallahatchie Choctaws vs. South Delta Bulldogs

West Tallahatchie and South Delta are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2019, but not for long. The West Tallahatchie Choctaws will head out to face off against the South Delta Bulldogs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. West Tallahatchie will be strutting in after a win while South Delta will be coming in after a defeat.

Last Tuesday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, West Tallahatchie beat Simmons 66-61.

Meanwhile, South Delta was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 48-45 heartbreaker at the hands of West Bolivar. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Bulldogs have suffered since December 28, 2023.

West Tallahatchie will need focus on slowing down Justin Stamps, one of several South Delta players who made an impact when they last played. He posted 11 points and eight boards. Amarion Sanders was another key player, putting up eight points along with six assists and five rebounds.

Even though they lost, South Delta smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive rebound total in three consecutive matchups.

South Delta's loss dropped their record down to 6-9. As for West Tallahatchie, their victory bumped their record up to 5-12.

West Tallahatchie came up short against South Delta when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 68-62. Can West Tallahatchie avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
