Baseball Recap: Nacogdoches Gets the Win

While Nacogdoches's victory against Tyler wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Dragons sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Lions on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Dragons have posted since February 26th.

Jayden Ard made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Nacogdoches is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 5-8 otherwise. Ard was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

Ard wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Nick Rodriguez, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. Cameron Brady also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Nacogdoches' record is now 7-9. As for Tyler, they have been struggling recently as they've lost ten of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-13 record this season.

Nacogdoches and Tyler could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Dragons will challenge Hallsville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (477 vs. 64). Meanwhile, Tyler (ranked 1072nd) will meet Texas (ranked 116th) at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
