Basketball Game Preview: San Benito Greyhounds vs. Harlingen Cardinals

San Benito hasn't had much luck against Harlingen recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The San Benito Greyhounds are taking a road trip to challenge the Harlingen Cardinals at 7:30 p.m.

Last Tuesday, San Benito ended up a good deal behind Veterans Memorial and lost 52-34. While losing is never fun, the Greyhounds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 377th, while the Chargers are ranked 174th).

Meanwhile, Harlingen came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 35 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Falcons by a score of 54-45.

Harlingen is also on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 15 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 23-7 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.9 points per game. As for San Benito, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 19-10.

San Benito couldn't quite finish off Harlingen in their previous matchup back in January of 2024 and fell 37-34. Can San Benito avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
