Washington has won four straight games at home, while Marshall Academy has won four straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Friday. The Generals will host the Patriots at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Washington's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They claimed a resounding 49-0 win over West Memphis Christian. The Generals pushed the score to 42-0 by the end of the third, a deficit the Black Knights had no chance of recovering from.
Max Morgan continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 210 yards and three scores on only seven carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 58 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another big playmaker for Washington was Doty Scott, who returned a punt for a touchdown.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Washington was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 329 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 208 rushing yards in four consecutive games.
Special teams also played a big role in the game for Washington, adding 13 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Scott, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Marshall Academy against Rossville Christian Academy on Friday as the team secured a 36-0 victory. The Patriots' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.
Washington better keep an eye on Connor Floyd. He was instrumental in Marshall Academy's win, throwing for 199 yards and three TDs while completing 87.5% of his passes, and also rushing for 58 yards and one touchdown on only five carries. The dominant performance also gave Floyd a new career-high in passer rating (166.7). Marshall Academy's leading receiver Devin Snow was Floyd's top target yet again, picking up 121 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Marshall Academy's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Washington, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 8-1.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Washington has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 254.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Marshall Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging 171.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
