Football Recap: Gainesville Comes Up Short

Gainesville extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 2-5. They fell 17-7 to the Leesburg Yellow Jackets. If the Hurricanes were looking for revenge after losing 35-34 to the Yellow Jackets when the teams met back in October of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for Leesburg, they now have a winning record of 4-3. That's two games straight that they have won by exactly ten points.

Among those leading the charge was Jacob Kinsy, who threw for 107 yards and two touchdowns, and also rushed for 53 yards on only six carries. His passing game has become a key predictor of Leesburg's success: the team is undefeated when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 1-3 otherwise.

Looking ahead, Gainesville will face off against Williston at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Red Devils will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Hurricanes surely won't give up without a fight. As for Leesburg, they will take on Lyman at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th. The Yellow Jackets will be up against the Greyhounds' rather soft defense (which has allowed 60.33 points per game), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
