Basketball Recap: Rock Island Proves Higher State Rank Is No Mistake

Rock Island won the last time they faced Sterling and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Rock Island Rocks strolled past the Sterling Golden Warriors with points to spare, taking the game 78-59. Given the Rocks' advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while the Golden Warriors are ranked 205th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Rock Island's victory bumped their record up to 21-3. As for Sterling, their defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 11-12.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Rock Island will face off against Moline at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Moline knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matches -- so hopefully Rock Island likes a good challenge. Sterling has already played their next game (against Quincy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
