Baseball Recap: Thatcher Comes Up Short

Thatcher suffered their closest defeat since April 22, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of the Benson Bobcats by a score of 8-6. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bobcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Paxton Echols and Brant Duncan stepped up to the plate in a big way. Echols went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Duncan went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI. The dominant performance gave Echols a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Jagen Hall, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Even though they lost, Thatcher hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matches.

Thatcher's defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Benson, the victory snapped their losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 3-9 record.

Thatcher wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 13-6 loss against Mica Mountain on the 14th. As for Benson, they will host St. Augustine Catholic at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
