Preview: Midway Panthers vs. Bryan Vikings
Midway is 0-1 against Bryan since October of 2022 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Midway Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Bryan Vikings at 7:30 p.m. Midway will be strutting in after a victory while Bryan will be coming in after a defeat.
Midway fell on hard times earlier this season, but after back-to-back wins it seems like their luck might finally be changing. They were the clear victor by a 45-21 margin over Copperas Cove. Given Midway's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 266th, while Copperas Cove is ranked 573rd), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ty Brown continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, throwing for 311 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.0 yards per attempt, and also punching in two touchdowns on the ground. Ramone Conway did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 80 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Bryan was beaten by Weiss 42-13 on Thursday. Bryan was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-6.
Midway has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 3-5 record this season. As for Bryan, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Midway has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 163.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Bryan struggles in that department as they've been even better at 173.1 per game. It's looking like Friday's match might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Midway was dealt a bruising 50-21 defeat at the hands of Bryan in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Can Midway avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
