Softball Recap: Wakeland Has No Trouble Against Newman Smith

While Wakeland put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Newman Smith. The Wolverines were the clear victors by a 12-0 margin over the Trojans. The Wolverines haven't had any issues with the Trojans recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Kayla Courcy made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in two of her three plate appearances.

In other batting news, Wakeland got a massive performance out of Claire Schreiner, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Mia Sanchez was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

Wakeland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .542. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Newman Smith only posted an OBP of .071.

Wakeland's record now sits at 17-4. As for Newman Smith, they dropped their record down to 0-18 with the defeat, which was their 16th straight on the road dating back to last season.
