Baseball Game Preview: Clover Hill Cavaliers vs. Huguenot Falcons

Clover Hill is a perfect 6-0 against Huguenot since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Cavaliers will host the Falcons at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Clover Hill has six straight victories, Huguenot has four straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Clover Hill took a 11-run defeat the last time they faced off against Manchester, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cavaliers narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past the Lancers 8-6.

James Nigriny made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 4.2 innings while giving up four earned runs off only two hits. Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

In other pitching news, Keller Williams looked comfortable as he pitched 2.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Carter Hine was excellent, going 1-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Owen Tingen was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs.

Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn't the day for Huguenot's offense. They lost 25-0 to Powhatan on Thursday.

Clover Hill's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-4. As for Huguenot, their loss dropped their record down to 2-9.

Everything went Clover Hill's way against Huguenot in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Clover Hill made off with a 25-0 win. Do the Cavaliers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Falcons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
