Basketball Recap: St. Mary's Ryken Comes Up Short

St. Mary's Ryken was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They took a blow against the St. John's Cadets, falling 75-36. The Knights were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 40-16.

St. John's was led to victory by Morgan Stewart and Camille Nesmith. Stewart went 6-for-14 en route to 16 points in addition to eight assists and six boards, while Nesmith went 6-for-9 on her way to 15 points. Nesmith is also on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 55% in the last nine games she's played. Logan Miller was another key player, putting up nine points.

St. Mary's Ryken's loss dropped their record down to 16-12. As for St. John's, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 24-3 record this season.

Coming up, St. Mary's Ryken will challenge The Academy of the Holy Cross at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Academy of the Holy Cross has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 186 points over their last three contests. As for St. John's, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 53-41 defeat against Elizabeth Seton on the 18th.
