Softball Recap: Raton Drops Season-High Score on Tucumcari

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Raton). They were the clear victors by a 23-8 margin over the Tucumcari Rattlers on Tuesday. The win continues a trend for the Tigers in their matchups with the Rattlers: they've now won four in a row.

Jennifer Mattorano was a standout: she scored four runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. She has been hot, having posted two or more stolen bases the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tess Chatterly, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, five RBI, and one run.

Raton was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in six consecutive contests.

Raton pushed their record up to 6-7 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.3 runs over those games. As for Tucumcari, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Looking ahead, Raton is taking a road trip to take on Estancia at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Bears will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Tigers surely won't give up without a fight. Tucumcari has already played their next matchup (against Non Varsity Opponent), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
