Baseball Recap: Union County Comes Up Short

Union County had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 5-14 to make it four. They lost 12-5 to the Greensburg Pirates. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Patriots of the 8-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Cole Cheatham was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles, two runs, and one RBI. Cam Salsbery also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

As for Greensburg, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-3 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games.

On Greensburg's side, they let Logan Meyer and Cy Miller run wild. Meyer got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Miller got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Hayden Ramsey, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Looking ahead, Union County is taking a road trip to take on Tri at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Titans have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 13 runs per game on average), something the Patriots will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Greensburg, they will be playing in front of their home fans against East Central at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
