Despite the fact that
Beau Hoge executed some pretty fancy East-West jukes, none of the coaches were complaining about the
Highlands (Fort Thomas, Ky.) quarterback's epic 81-yard touchdown run last week in an equally epic 37-34 Quadrant 4 final win over Covington Catholic.
Hoge, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound senior, made at least a half-dozen would-be tacklers miss on his way to the touchdown run that paved the way to the Final Four.
According to the
Cincinnati Enquirer, Hoge accounted for 368 yards, including 177 on the ground as the Bluebirds qualified for the semifinals for the 16th time in 20 years (they've won 11 in that span).
Though Hoge was at the forefront of most of his team's offense, the fancy touchdown run had everyone talking after this one. It gave the Highlands a 37-13 lead before the Bluebirds held on.
"I don't have an explanation for that run," Highlands coach Brian Weinrich told reporters after the game. "It was incredible. He gave us a really nice game."
That's an understatement.
Hoge has committed to BYU but had strong interest from Cincinnati, Miami (Ohio) and Ohio. He's ranked the 40th top dual threat quarterback in the country by
247Sports.
