Softball Recap: Pike Comes Up Short

Pike extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 20 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 0-19 in the process. They came up short against the Lawrence North Wildcats, falling 14-1. If the Red Devils were looking for revenge after losing 17-1 to the Wildcats when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Pike saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lilianna Richardson, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for Lawrence North, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-11. That 13 run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

On Lawrence North's side, Sydney Moss made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Moss has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jaida Wheat, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Keyauri Jones, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI.

Pike has already played their next game, a 13-1 loss against Guerin Catholic on the 14th. As for Lawrence North, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 4-3 win against Mt. Vernon on the 14th.
