Basketball Recap: Mater Academy East Las Vegas' Run of Five Straight Wins Now Over

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Mater Academy East Las Vegas can now relate to. They came up short against the Virgin Valley Bulldogs on Friday, falling 62-41. The Knights' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Mater Academy East Las Vegas still got an impressive performance from Amija Macon, who posted 20 points in addition to five boards and five steals. Macon's big performance that evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least 16 points. Another player making a difference was Victoria Rubio-White, who put up six points and three steals.

Virgin Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mady Wright led the charge by going 6-for-12 to rack up 18 points and three steals. Wright has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 12 times she's played. Hannah Waite was another key player, going 5-for-11 en route to 11 points along with eight assists and six rebounds.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas' loss dropped their record down to 21-7. As for Virgin Valley, their victory was their 17th straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-7.

Mater Academy East Las Vegas wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 48-43 win against Churchill County on the 20th. As for Virgin Valley, they have also already played their next contest, a 56-52 victory against Fernley on the 20th.
