Preview: Kenton Ridge Cougars vs. Northwestern Warriors
Kenton Ridge is 6-1 against Northwestern since December of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Kenton Ridge Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Northwestern Warriors at 7:30 p.m. Kenton Ridge will be strutting in after a victory while Northwestern will be coming in after a loss.
Even though Kenton Ridge has not done well against Jonathan Alder recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Kenton Ridge skirted past Jonathan Alder 49-46. The win made it back-to-back wins for Kenton Ridge.
Kenton Ridge's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Canye Rogan, who scored 16 points, and Ckai Rogan, who scored 22 points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Braden Smith, who scored two points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Northwestern had to suffer through a rough 59-27 loss at the hands of Shawnee. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Northwestern in their matchups with Shawnee: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite their defeat, Northwestern saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Brayden Bechtel, who scored six points, was perhaps the best of all. Jacob Shaffer was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Kenton Ridge's win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-0. As for Northwestern, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.
Everything came up roses for Kenton Ridge against Northwestern when the teams last played back in February as the squad secured a 79-45 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Kenton Ridge since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
