Basketball Recap: Genesee Valley's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Genesee Valley had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They secured a 71-65 W over the Arkport Central/Canaseraga Wolves on Saturday. The win was all the more spectacular given the Jaguars' disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 558th, while the Wolves are ranked 181st).

Several Wolves players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Alex Vilkhu, who posted 17 points in addition to seven boards and six assists. Another player making a difference was Caden Carey, who earned 21 points and three steals.

Genesee Valley's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Arkport Central/Canaseraga, they have also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-4 record this season.

A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Genesee Valley Jaguars face off against the Campbell-Savona Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Arkport Central/Canaseraga does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
