While Desert Mountain won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-17, 26-24.

Leading Desert Mountain to victory were Maryjane Cockrill and Isabella Mitchell. Cockrill had 17 digs and three aces, while Mitchell had 18 assists. That's the most aces Cockrill has posted since back in September.

Desert Mountain's win was their first in the region, bumping their region record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 11-21. As for Mountain Pointe, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 16 of their last 18 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-23 record this season.

Desert Mountain and Mountain Pointe could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings. The Wolves (ranked 73rd) will meet Horizon (ranked 15th) at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Mountain Pointe will face off against Campo Verde at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (145 vs. 46).
