Softball Preview: Orland Trojans vs. Oroville Tigers
Orland and Oroville are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2017, but likely not for long. The Orland Trojans will be playing in front of their home fans against the Oroville Tigers at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Orland will be strutting in after a victory while Oroville will be coming in after a loss.
Orland took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They were the clear victor by a 15-5 margin over Gridley. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for Orland considering their one-run performance the contest before.
Keira Mackenzie made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Mackenzie was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.
In other batting news, Orland got a massive performance out of Ella McDermott, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Mercedes Gamboa, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Oroville fell victim to Las Plumas and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They suffered a tough 18-0 defeat at the hands of the Thunderbirds. Oroville has not had much luck with Las Plumas recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Orland's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-14. As for Oroville, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.
