Softball Game Preview: Donna North Chiefs vs. Edcouch-Elsa Yellowjackets

Donna North is 0-10 against Edcouch-Elsa since April of 2016 but things could change on Friday. The Donna North Chiefs will head out on the road to challenge the Edcouch-Elsa Yellowjackets at 6:30 p.m. Donna North has given up an average of 13.5 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.

Donna North is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their eighth straight game on Tuesday. They came up short against Harlingen South, falling 18-0.

Meanwhile, Edcouch-Elsa didn't have quite enough to beat Porter on Monday and fell 4-3.

Melody Soto put in work while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Edcouch-Elsa has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-4 record this season. Donna North's loss dropped their record down to 3-11.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Donna North has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Edcouch-Elsa struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Donna North suffered a grim 20-0 defeat to Edcouch-Elsa in their previous meeting back in February. Can Donna North avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
