Basketball Recap: Fleming Wildcats vs. Weldon Valley Warriors
The Fleming Wildcats came into Friday's game having lost seven straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They walked away with a 40-32 win over Weldon Valley on Friday. The win was just what Fleming needed coming off of a 61-25 loss in their prior game.
David Betley was the offensive standout of the match as he scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Dane Cunningham, who scored eight points.
Despite the defeat, Weldon Valley saw an underclassman step up: August Filter scored 11 points. Jayce Davis was another key contributor, scoring four points along with three steals.
Weldon Valley struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Fleming pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.
Fleming's win bumped their record up to 4-10. As for Weldon Valley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-12.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Fleming won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Pirates at 3:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Bethune is no doubt hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
