Weymouth had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.9 runs) and they went ahead and made it eight on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Newton North Tigers, sneaking past 5-3. That's more bragging rights for the Wildcats, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Liam Barr tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 6.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off eight hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Andrew Daley and Ryan Ferguson did most of the damage at the plate: Daley earned two runs and two stolen bases, while Ferguson went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those two runs gave Ferguson a new career-high. Alex Munchbach was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.

Weymouth pushed their record up to 18-5 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.2 runs on average over those games. As for Newton North, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Weymouth will host Norwell at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Newton North, they will be playing at home against Waltham at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
