Softball Recap: Dyer County Wins High-Profile Contest Against South Gibson

Dyer County faced South Gibson in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Choctaws never let the Hornets get on the board and left with a 2-0 win. This was a revenge game for the Choctaws: when they faced off against the Hornets on Monday, they had to take a 9-6 loss.

The result came thanks to Molly Woody's shutout, as she gave up just six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Dyer County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Rylee Key, who went 1-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

The victory made it two in a row for Dyer County and bumps their season record up to 23-7. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for South Gibson, the defeat snapped their winning streak at six games and leaves them with a 16-5 record.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Dyer County will head out to face off against Lexington at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for South Gibson, they will challenge Crockett County at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Hornets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Cavaliers have averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season.
