Volleyball Recap: Coastal Academy Takes a Loss

Coastal Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Vista Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 2-0 last Friday.

While Coastal Academy had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-23, 19-25, 25-18.

Despite the defeat, Coastal Academy saw an underclassman step up: freshman Camille Gastelum had 14 digs and six aces. Those six aces set a new season-high mark for Gastelum.

Coastal Academy's loss dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Vista, their victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-15.

Coming up, Coastal Academy will venture away from home to square off against San Diego Jewish Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. This will be the Stingrays' first chance to prove their worth in the conference. As for Vista, they will host Mission Hills at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
