Baseball Recap: Aurora Christian Comes Up Short

Aurora Christian had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 12-9 to make it four. They fell just short of the St. Edward Green Wave by a score of 5-4. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Green Wave earlier this season, when they won 9-2.

Nolan Robertson spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five runs (all of which were unearned) on eight hits and racked up seven Ks.

On the hitting side, Jack Burns was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Aurora Christian's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 7-8 when he doesn't).

St. Edward's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-17. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted since May 1, 2024.

On St. Edward's side, the team relied heavily on Mathew Morrice, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave Morrice a new career-high. Brayden Collins-Langfield was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Looking ahead, Aurora Christian will challenge Bishop McNamara at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Fightin' Irish's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for St. Edward, they will face off against Northridge at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Knights have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.71 runs per game on average), something the Green Wave will no doubt try to take advantage of.
