The Milpitas Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Gunn Titans at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Milpitas has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Milpitas is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They had just enough and edged out Los Altos 8-7 on Thursday. The Trojans haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Marissa Gil made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple.
In other batting news, Milpitas let Casandra Curiel and Sophia Delgado run wild. Curiel went 3-for-5 with two doubles and one RBI, while Delgado scored a run while going 2-for-5. What's more, Delgado posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024. Dahana Gonzalez was another key player, scoring a run while going 3-for-5.
Milpitas was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .459. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Gunn came up short against Menlo-Atherton on Saturday and fell 7-4.
Allison Novick was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Tess Bogart, who went 3-for-4 with one double.
Gunn's defeat dropped their record down to 5-4. As for Milpitas, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-7.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Milpitas hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .313. However, it's not like Gunn struggles in that department as they've averaged .328. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Milpitas might still be hurting after the 9-2 loss they got from Gunn when the teams last played back in February of 2022. Can Milpitas avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
