Preview: Victoria East Titans vs. Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial Eagles
Victoria East is 0-5 against Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial since October of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Victoria East Titans will head out on the road to face off against the Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial Eagles at 7:30 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the pair will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Friday, Victoria East got themselves on the board against Corpus Christi Moody, but Corpus Christi Moody never followed suit. They really took it to the Trojans for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-0 win at home. Given Victoria East's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 423rd, while Corpus Christi Moody is ranked 965th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Nijahrell Prater, who rushed for 100 yards and four touchdowns. Prater really tore up the turf during one magnificent 74-yard run. Victoria East also got a significant boost from Brashawn Brown, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 91 yards.
Meanwhile, Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. The game between Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial and Miller wasn't particularly close, with Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial falling 59-40.
Victoria East is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. As for Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-2.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as both teams have no problem gaining yardage. Victoria East has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 361.9 total yards per game. However, it's not like Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial struggles in that department as they've been even better at 400.6 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Victoria East came up short against Corpus Christi Veterans Memorial in their previous matchup back in October of 2022, falling 26-21. Thankfully for Victoria East, Elijah Durrette (who threw for 347 yards and three touchdowns while completing 78.4% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
