Softball Recap: Shawnee Renegades vs. Cherokee Chiefs
Shawnee extended their losing streak to ten on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 1-13 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Cherokee Chiefs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Chiefs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 6-0 back in April.
As for Cherokee, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 11-4. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.
For Cherokee's part, Allison Cunane made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Cunane has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ava Merente, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Cali Taylor was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs.
Coming up, Shawnee will challenge Seneca on Thursday. As for Cherokee, they will take on Moorestown at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
