Baseball Recap: Laurel Drops Highest Score of Season Against Aliquippa

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Laurel). They put the hurt on the Aliquippa Quips with a sharp 16-1 victory on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

RJ Kissick made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Luca Santini and Kolton Carlson did most of the damage at the plate: Santini went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one double, while Carlson went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. Those three RBI gave Santini a new career-high. JJ McBride was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two RBI and one run.

Laurel was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .579. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive matchups.

Laurel's win bumped their record up to 5-7. As for Aliquippa, their loss was their 15th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-9.

Laurel will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Quips: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
