Southwestern is 1-9 against Iowa-Grant since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Wildcats will face off against the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. Southwestern will be strutting in after a win while Iowa-Grant will be coming in after a defeat.
Southwestern took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Their pitcher stepped up to hand Boscobel a 17-0 shutout. That 17 run margin sets a new team best for the Wildcats this season.
Hailey Brant made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Brant was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Morgan Muller was a standout: she went 1-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. Laila Theill was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Southwestern always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 11 runs the game before, Iowa-Grant was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They came up short against Prairie du Chien, falling 8-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Panthers have suffered since May 6, 2024.
Iowa-Grant saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaycee Lindner, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.
This is the second loss in a row for Iowa-Grant and nudges their season record down to 7-4. As for Southwestern, their record is now 3-8.
Southwestern suffered a grim 12-2 defeat to Iowa-Grant when the teams last played on April 3rd. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
