Baseball Game Preview: Bedford North Lawrence Stars vs. Borden Braves

The Bedford North Lawrence Stars will face off against the Borden Braves at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Bedford North Lawrence 2.8, Borden 2.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

On Monday, Bedford North Lawrence needed a bit of extra time to put away Bloomington South. They skirted past the Panthers 3-2. Surprisingly, this marked the fifth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.

Cal Gates and Cam Gates were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Gates pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Cam tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one hit any time he's pitched this season. At bat, Gates got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one triple and one run, while Cam scored a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

In other pitching news, Cutler Chastain tossed a big game, tossing five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Lucas Ira, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Borden entered their tilt with Clarksville on Saturday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Generals a 13-0 shutout. The Braves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matches by ten runs or more this season.

The win got Bedford North Lawrence back to even at 2-2. As for Borden, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.

Bedford North Lawrence couldn't quite finish off Borden in their previous meeting back in April of 2022 and fell 2-0. Can the Stars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
