Buena had won two straight games and Michael Lujan did his part to make it three on Friday. The Colts strolled past the Canyon del Oro Dorados with points to spare, taking the game 35-17 for which the team can thank Lujan, who rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Buena is undefeated when Lujan posts two or more rushing touchdowns, but 2-3 otherwise.
Buena didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Ricardo Brooks, Tariq Howard, and Jayden Thomas picked up one apiece. Another thorn in Canyon del Oro's side was Cooper Kraus, who picked up a sack and made 20 total tackles (1.5 for loss).
Special teams played a big role in the game for Buena, adding 11 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Brooks, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
When it comes to explaining why Canyon del Oro lost, don't look at Jayden Smith. Despite the final result, he picked up 119 receiving yards and one TD. Smith also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, making three total tackles and defending two passes.
