Volleyball Recap: Danville Vikings vs. Oakwood Comets
Danville was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 12th straight defeat dating back to last season. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Oakwood Comets. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Comets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.
In an exciting match in which no team claimed back-to-back wins, Danville sadly wound up on the wrong side. The final score came out to 25-16, 20-25, 25-23.
Oakwood can attribute much of their success to Mady Nicoson, who had eight kills, four aces, and three digs. Those eight kills gave Nicoson a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ashtyn Dailey, who had nine assists and two aces.
Danville's defeat dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Oakwood, their victory bumped their record up to 2-6.
Danville and Oakwood could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Vikings will challenge Peoria Notre Dame at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank disadvantage (570 vs. 198). Meanwhile, Oakwood (ranked 544th) will meet Armstrong (ranked 204th) at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
