Softball Recap: Carson Drops Highest Score of Season Against Rancho Dominguez

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Carson). They never let the Rancho Dominguez Lobos get on the board and left with a 20-0 win on Thursday. The Colts haven't had any issues with the Lobos recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Giselle Pantoja made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in May of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other pitching news, Isabella Campos looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the first time she hasn't allowed a single hit since back in April of 2024.

Back at the plate, Carson got a massive performance out of Anaiyah Popoalii, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Popoalii a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Genevieve Sandoval, who went 2-for-3 with five RBI, one run, and one double.

Carson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .667. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Carson's win was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-0-1. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Rancho Dominguez, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Carson will face off against rival San Pedro at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Carson 2.2, San Pedro 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Rancho Dominguez is set to take on their familiar foe Gardena at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday.
