Basketball Recap: Bishop Machebeuf Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Massaran Ciza and Eve Brustkern

Bishop Machebeuf was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 49-38 to the Windsor Charter Academy Firebirds. While losing is never fun, the Buffaloes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 225th, while the Firebirds are ranked 108th).

Eve Brustkern and Massaran Ciza certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Brustkern posted 11 points and seven steals, while Ciza dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten boards. Brustkern has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last eight times she's played. Penelope Mikita was another key player, putting up five points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Bishop Machebeuf's loss dropped their record down to 1-4. As for Windsor Charter Academy, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 6-2.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Bishop Machebeuf and Gilpin County will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 5:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Gilpin County's defense has only allowed 26.8 points per game this season, so Bishop Machebeuf's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Windsor Charter Academy, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Prospect Ridge Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
