Softball Recap: Sabino Drops Season-High Score on Cholla

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Sabino). Everything went their way against the Cholla Chargers on Wednesday as they made off with a 17-2 win. The Sabercats have beaten the Chargers the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Chargers has come to flipping the script.

The team relied heavily on Alannis Ochoa, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in doubles (two). Bobbi Valles was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-2.

Ochoa wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Sabino kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That's a new trend for the Sabercats: they were averaging 5.4 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 matches they've averaged 12.4.

Sabino pushed their record up to 8-9 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.8 runs over those games. As for Cholla, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-7.

Sabino wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 15-4 victory against Benjamin Franklin on the 28th. As for Cholla, they have also already played their next contest, a 19-2 win against Amphitheater on the 27th.
