Softball Recap: Carrier Mills-Stonefort Wildcats vs. Century Centurions

Carrier Mills-Stonefort extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 4-12 in the process. They came up short against the Century Centurions, falling 10-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Centurions this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 back in March.

As for Century, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games.

For Century's part, Jaylee Vanmeter made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts Vanmeter has posted since back in April. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.

In other pitching news, Layla Helman looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Kali Crain, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Hayden Anderson, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base.

Coming up, Carrier Mills-Stonefort will host Cobden at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Century does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
