Baseball Recap: Rantoul's Victory on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Rantoul lost to Lincoln back in May of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Monday. The Eagles came out on top against the Railsplitters by a score of 6-1. The win was familiar territory for the Eagles, who have now won three matchups in a row.

Levi Duitsman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over seven innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Rantoul is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 11-12 otherwise. Duitsman was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Holden Cargo, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April. Yovanny Solorzano was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with two runs and two RBI.

Rantoul's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-12. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Lincoln, their record is now 13-16.

The future could be bright for both Rantoul and Lincoln: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. The Eagles will try to hand Bloomington their sixth-straight loss when the two meet at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Lincoln will look to extend MacArthur's 18-game losing streak when they meet at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
