Preview: Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders vs. Enloe Eagles
Cardinal Gibbons is 9-1 against the Eagles since February of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Cardinal Gibbons Crusaders will head out on the road to take on the Enloe Eagles at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Cardinal Gibbons has six straight wins, the Eagles have 38 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
A well-balanced attack led Cardinal Gibbons over the Spartans in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Cardinal Gibbons came out on top against the Spartans by a score of 46-34. Given Cardinal Gibbons' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 139th, while the Spartans are ranked 480th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cardinal Gibbons found their leader in underclassman Tessa Gladieux, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten rebounds. Gladieux is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mya Lemons, who scored 17 points.
Meanwhile, Enloe was beaten by the Pride 57-13 on Tuesday. Enloe was down 49-10 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.
Cardinal Gibbons' victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-7. As for Enloe, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-16.
Everything came up roses for Cardinal Gibbons against the Eagles when the teams last played back in January as the team secured a 69-23 victory. With Cardinal Gibbons ahead 48-14 at the half, the match was all but over already.
