Basketball Recap: Aria Matthews Key Part of a Team Effort in Eagles Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Farmington, University was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They came out on top against the Oak Park Knights by a score of 31-18. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 24-17 two weeks ago.

University got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Aria Matthews out in front who posted 14 points. Su'Hunye Green was another key player, putting up ten points.

Gabrielle Lee and De'Nyah Lloyd certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Lee had 12 points and five steals, while Lloyd earned no points and five rebounds. Lee has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times she's played.

University is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 24.8 points over those games. As for Oak Park, they are on an 11-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-10.

Coming up, University is taking a road trip to take on Pontiac at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. University's defense has only allowed 28.8 points per game this season, so Pontiac's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for Oak Park, they will host Farmington at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
