Basketball Recap: Maple Heights Comes Up Short

Maple Heights played a tough game on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They came up short against the Lorain Titans, falling 56-36. The contest was a 20-20 toss-up at halftime, but the Mustangs couldn't quite close it out.

Lorain's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Samone Whitt led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 19 rebounds. Whitt is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down 15 or more in the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Ca'Milynne Shields, who posted 15 points and four steals.

Maple Heights' loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Lorain, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-3.

The future could be bright for both Maple Heights and Lorain: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Maple Heights will try to hand John Adams their third-straight defeat when the two meet at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Lorain will try to hand Euclid their fifth-straight loss when the two meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
