Preview: Southwestern Piasa Birds vs. First Baptist Academy
The Southwestern Piasa Birds will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against First Baptist Academy at 7:30 p.m. on December 11th. Hopefully Southwestern focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up five on Friday.
Last Friday, Southwestern's game was all tied up 24-24 at the half, but luckily for them it didn't stay that way. They walked away with a 56-47 win over Staunton. The win was just what Southwestern needed coming off of a 62-33 loss in their prior match.
Ian Brantley continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 21 points along with 6 rebounds and 4 blocks. The matchup was his ninth in a row with at least ten points. Rocky Darr was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Meanwhile, First Baptist Academy's game on Thursday was all tied up 22-22 at the half, but sadly for them it didn't stay that way. They fell to Maryville Christian 41-37. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for First Baptist Academy in their matchups with Maryville Christian: they've now lost seven in a row.
Wesclin's victory bumped their season record to 0-0 while Southwestern's loss dropped theirs to 4-4.
Everything came up roses for Southwestern against First Baptist Academy in their previous matchup back in January as the team secured a 62-33 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Southwestern since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
