Basketball Recap: Manatee's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

If Manatee was feeling good fresh off their 62-24 takedown of Southeast last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Manatee Hurricanes took a 57-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the DeSoto County Bulldogs. While losing is never fun, the Hurricanes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 229th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 104th).

Leading DeSoto County to victory were Yahri Tyler and Cherish Wiggins. Tyler dropped a double-double on 18 points and 18 boards, while Wiggins dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds. Tyler has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last eight times she's played. Another player making a difference was Jaliyah Luther, who posted two points and ten rebounds.

Manatee moved to 14-9 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for DeSoto County, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-6.

Manatee does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for DeSoto County, they will face off against Island Coast at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. DeSoto County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 54.9 points per game this season.
