Basketball Game Preview: Reagan County Owls vs. Whitharral Panthers

The Reagan County Owls and the Whitharral Panthers will round out the year against one another at at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both will really light up the scoreboard.

Whitharral is hoping to do what Kermit couldn't on Friday: put an end to Reagan County's winning streak, which now stands at three games. Reagan County walked away with a 62-52 victory over Kermit. Given the Owls' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 489th, while the Yellow Jackets are ranked 1267th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Whitharral blew past Jemez Valley, posting a 74-24 win. The Panthers have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 34 points or more this season.

Reagan County better focus on containing Brenton Robinson and Hudson Dobrovolny as the pair were huge in Whitharral's win. Robinson went 10 for 12 on his way to 22 points and seven rebounds, while Dobrovolny dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten boards. Damian Rodriguez was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to five boards and five steals.

Whitharral was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Whitharral's victory bumped their record up to 7-4. As for Reagan County, their win bumped their record up to 11-3.
