Baseball Game Preview: Calhoun Academy Cougars vs. Grace Christian Eagles

For the second straight game, Calhoun Academy will face off against Grace Christian. Calhoun Academy will host Grace Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Calhoun Academy's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Grace Christian with a sharp 11-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won four contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Carsen Stegall made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Calhoun Academy is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-5 otherwise. Stegall was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Kaden Denton and Caiden Farmer did most of the damage at the plate: Denton scored a run and stole three bases while going 2-for-3, while Farmer scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases Farmer has posted since back in April of 2024. Bronnor Bingham was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Calhoun Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Calhoun Academy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. Grace Christian is on an eight-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.
